Independent Home Care, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization, was founded in 2007 to provide reliable, high-quality home care services for individuals of all ages, and to address and design the solutions for issues of poverty and the social determinants of community and individual well-being, such as safe, affordable and accessible housing.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

On Wednesday, July 15th, nearly 150 people joined Doug Hovey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Independent Home Care, Inc. and Jonah Mandelbaum, President, Warwick Properties, Inc. to celebrate the Grand Opening of Independence Square Apartments, fully accessible, safe and affordable one, two, and three-bedroom units that is now home to 74 individuals and families. Located at 11 Washington Terrace in the City of Newburgh. Attendees included project sponsors, state and local officials, residents and community members.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony also included the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), an "equal opportunity" law prohibiting discrimination in housing, transportation, employment and education for people with disabilities followed by the dedication of a Peace Pole in collaboration with the Peace Bell Foundation and the Newburgh Rotary Club, and a commemorative brick garden, donated by supporters of Independence Square. Independence Square was developed by Jonah Mandelbaum, President of Warwick Properties, Inc. Funding sources for the project include: NYS Homes & Community Renewal (HCR), NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), Orange County Community Development, the Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), and Raymond James Tax Credit Funds, Inc.
